Handmade Afghan Project

Rectanglers Designing their first Afghans September 7, 2013

For four years a local group has been knitting and crocheting rectangles, which have been sent to the suburban Washington DC area where they are made into afghans for our local servicemen.  Our group sent 5,991 rectangles –or 122 afghans! After delivering more than 10,400 afghans, this group is retiring.

Our local Rectanglers decided they didn’t want to retire, so they now are continuing on their own project.  They will meet at 9:30 in Lowe Hall on September 7 to design the afghans and local people will crochet them together.  The finished afghans will be delivered to the Army Veteran’s Hospital in Tampa.

 You Can Help!!

It’s not too late!!  You can help in several ways.  (1) We need additional people to knit and crochet rectangles.  (2) We need more people to crochet them together (we will give you simple instructions).  (3) And we need yarn or money to buy yarn for assembling the rectangles into afghans. If you have an artistic eye, (4) we could use a few more people to help with the designing on September 7 too.

Thanks for your support for this great program.  Please e-mail or call Sue Wait or Terry Hussey if you can help.

MOTS Care Packages

We are collecting items to send to those serving overseas in the Military. There is a box in Lowe Hall and hope that you will help us fill them with items for the servicemen.  These items will be forwarded to MOTS-Manatee Operation Troop Support.

Check the list of items needed in Lowe Hall, or see Bill or Sue Wait.
