Episcopal Church Women

The Church of the Annunciation has an active Episcopal Church Women’s organization which is run by a steering committee.  The steering committee schedules once a month meetings during the winter months January through April.  In May we have a joint meeting with our nearby Catholic Church, St Bernard’s.  We alternate each year for the meeting place.  This has been a tradition for many, many years.

The ECW is the main fund raising body of the church.  We have two or three big sales each year, usually earning $3,000-$4,000 each. The ECW organizes the sales but everyone (men included) pitches in to help.  Virtually all the money raised goes to our Church or to charitable organizations in the area and around the world.  The ECW supplies all funds for the coffee hour (food and serving person) throughout the year.

Be a Christmas Angel

About the first week on November we receive names and ages of children from the Manatee County School System, which oversees Project Heart.  The children in Project Heart are considered homeless.  We provide gifts for 30 – 40 children.  A person or group of persons take a card with the child’s name, age, sizes, and gift wishes.  Gifts are bought and wrapped for each child and returned to the church.  Sometimes gift cards are collected for the families.  The school system picks up the gifts which are placed in a large bag with the child’s name on it.  The school system then delivers the gifts to the families.
