Episcopal Church Women ~ ECW
Women’s First Gathering October 3, 2013
The women of Annunciation will hold their first general meeting of the year on Thursday, October 3, at 10:30 am. Our speaker will be Chris Collins, telling us about his trip to Cuba last spring. Jeanne Colwell will be preparing a brunch for us that morning, so be sure to mark your calendar, so you don’t miss this one!
At the October meeting, we will be handing out our program booklet for the 2013-14 season. The ECW welcomes every single woman who attends the Church of the Annunciation. We have such a good time together, and our fund-raising events are all geared to providing funds for outreach to those in need. If you’ve never come to an ECW meeting before, we’d LOVE to have you attend. It’s a good way to meet others in the church.
Our first big fund raiser for the year will be our Holly Berry Bazaar on December 7. This year we’d like to offer more hand-made gift items. What do you enjoy making? A knitted sweater or scarf? A painting? Jewelry? Something you sew? Consider making one for the church to sell.
Other upcoming events are the Caring Divas Luncheon on February 6, and our annual White Elephant Sale. Because of the timing of the Bishop’s visit, we have moved the White Elephant Sale to March 1
The Episcopal Church Women’s organization is active at Annunciation. All women are members by their baptism. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month from October through May, following the Thursday morning Eucharist. Each meeting usually has a short business meeting and a speaker or program and refreshments or lunch.
We have two or three big sales each year, usually earning $3,000-$4,000 each, making the ECW one of the main fund raising bodies of the church. Virtually all the money raised goes to our Church or to charitable organizations in the area and around the world. The ECW also supplies the funds for the coffee hour throughout the year.
White Elephant Sale
The ECW sends their thanks to the whole parish who helped with the White Elephant Sale, with special thanks to Suzy Cowgill who chaired the event. The sale was a huge success with profits of around $4,200. The benefits of the sale continued when all the leftovers were carefully sorted and set to appropriate charities in town: Goodwill, Women’s Resource Network, Coalition for the Homeless (now Turning Points) and other local agencies. We appreciate so much all those who donated, worked, baked, and shopped at the sale.
