WOW – now that’s CHRISTIAN OUTREACH!

Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, Holmes Beach, has announced its annual charitable grants to the local community and beyond.  On June 12th, Vestry approved $12,700 worth of grants to 14 local, national and international non-profit organizations.  For several years, Annunciation has committed funds from its operating budget to support worthy organizations beyond its own doors.

One of Annunciation’s grants of $2000 is being made to Learn to Fish, a Bradenton faith-based residential recovery center for women who have lived a life of abuse and trauma.  Learn to Fish provides safe housing, educational support, health services and life skills for women, all of whom have recently been released from jail.

This grant is being combined with two other grants – one of $2000 from Annunication’s Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and one of $6000 from the Anna Maria Island Women’s Giving Circle, a donor advised fund of the Manatee Community Foundation.  With $10,000 in hand, Learn to Fish will be able to completely renovate a former thrift store into a residential building which will house 6-12 women transitioning from recovery to attending classes and preparing for entry into the workforce.

Five of the 20 members of the AMI Women’s Giving Circle are also members of Episcopal Church of the Annunciation; they are:  Judy Bennett, Carol Carter, Myrna Endean, Jan Pettus and Judy Ward.

Church member Judy Bennett states: “Learn to Fish founder Sabrina Crain-Sweeney has had an incredible commitment to women in transition for more than 10 years and she has worked wonders over that time on a miniscule budget.  Church of the Annunciation is proud to support this worthy cause”.
